The tour step by step
Light the Arctic fire
Gather around the open fire in our riverside kota, learn how to light a fire with just one match, and discover local secrets of smoking freshly caught fish – a cherished Arctic tradition in summer and winter.
Smoke the salmon
Together, we'll prepare the traditional smoking box, chop wood the Arctic way and carefully prepare fresh salmon fillets for hot-smoking over the fire. The preparation is an experience in itself, but the best part comes when we taste our creation, served with regional specialities, local herbs and spices, and a delicious homemade dessert. While the salmon slowly smokes, relax beside the frozen river, enjoy the peaceful Arctic atmosphere and keep an eye on the sky – perhaps the Northern Lights will make an appearance!
Feast and sauna
Gather around the big table in our cosy restaurant to enjoy your delicious Arctic feast. Afterwards, unwind in a traditional Finnish riverside sauna and, if you're feeling adventurous, roll in the snow like the locals! Keep an eye on the sky – Muotkan Ruoktu's remote location, far from light pollution, offers excellent conditions for spotting the Northern Lights. While the aurora can never be guaranteed, you might be lucky enough to see it dancing above the frozen river. A wonderful evening of local flavours, Finnish traditions and Arctic magic!
